Trio jailed for possessing fake MyKads

KOTA KINABALU: Three foreigners were jailed eight months for separate charges of possessing fake MyKads.

Deputy registrar Marlina Ibrahim imposed the sentence on Moh Asli Manduhati, 45, Yusuf Hussin, 39, and Wahid Malik, 41, after they pleaded guilty under Section 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.

The offence carries a maximum three-year jail and a fine OF not less than RM3,000 and not exceeding RM20,000, or both.

Moh Asli who was carrying a fake MyKad with numbers 681007-12-6121, was arrested at Lido, Luyang on September 28 at 11.05am, while Yusuf and Wahid were arrested at THE Kota Kinabalu International Airport Terminal Two.

In mitigation, they requested for the jail term to run from the date of their arrest.

In reply, the prosecution pleaded for a deterrent sentence taking into account that this offence was serious.

The court also ordered the accused to be refereed to the Immigration Department after serving their jail terms for deportation.

In a separate case, two men were each fined RM1,600 or jailed six months by the traffic court here for driving their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.

Marlina passed the sentence on Mohd Faizan Baharuddin and William Toronoh, 34, after they admitted to each of their charges under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a fine between RM1,000 to RM6,000, or a jail term of up to 12 months.

Traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Hanif Mamyudi appeared for the prosecution.
