MIRI: A 62-year-old elderly woman lodged a police report yesterday after she found that RM500 had gone missing from her savings account here.

It is understood that the victim had gone to the bank yesterday morning to check on her savings account but was surprised to see that her account was short of RM500.

She then immediately went to the counter at the bank for an explanation and was advised to lodge a police report.

The victim’s daughter who requested anonymity said her mother had been saving the money for quite some time as she wants to perform the Haj.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a man in his 30s was arrested for stealing six bags of rice and four packets of Milo worth about RM400 in total from a supermarket at Krokop 10 at about 4pm on Monday.

The suspect was caught by the workers who saw him pushing the shopping trolley containing the rice and Milo out of the supermarket.

A police team who was called to the scene then took the suspect to Miri Central Police Station for investigation.
