A day out for GCM staff, management committee

MIRI: It was time off from work and duties for staff and management committee of Gymkhana Club Miri (GCM) last weekend as they set off for leisure and fun away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Over 100 of them, led by honorary treasurer Iqbal Abdullah and manager Murugayah Veloo, took a day trip to the Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort, about 50 minutes’ drive from the city, to ease their mind and enjoy the cool breeze and fresh air in the resort amidst the jungle, which was an enlightening and interesting experience.

“This was the only time staff and management committee could interact with one another – through the outing and activities without any level of authority in this ‘Getting to know each other’ concept away from IT gadgets, what we called `Human Interaction’,” the club’s recruitment officer Jennie Soh told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Among the activities were boating, feeding fish, jungle trekking and walking about to see different types of fruit trees, chickens, goats, birds and insects.

In addition, there were also archery and fox-flying which were the favourite outdoor events, and lucky draws contributed by some members of the management committee.

Along the way, there were plenty of positive reminders hung at each station to eliminate negative thoughts.

The day ended with all of them in high spirits, motivated and knowing each other better.

Formed in 1913, Gymkhana Club Miri is one of the oldest clubs in Miri. It celebrated its 101st anniversary this year.

Every year, the club would take a day off for a ‘Staff Family Day’.
