KUCHING: A coffee table book entitled ‘Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib – The Visionary Builder of Modern Sarawak’ has been published to chronicle his life from childhood education to his appointment as Head of State.

The 408-page book with 630 photographs is a pictorial documentation of his eventful career including key contributions to Sarawak’s most significant socioeconomic development during his time as Chief Minister from March 26, 1981 to Feb 28, 2014.

Compiled and edited by a team of writers comprising educationists, editors and reporters, the book also includes the future impact of the foundation Taib put in place to ensure Sarawak’s continued progress and prosperity.

Although the focus is on Taib’s career in public service and politics, it also provides insight into his personal and family life.

In his message, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said looking back at all that Sarawak has achieved over the past 33 years, Tain is aptly called the ‘Visionary Builder of Modern Sarawak’.

Najib said it must be acknowledged that Taib has dedicated his life to serving Malaysia and Sarawak, and that the state has transformed from one of the poorest to one of the most prosperous under his leadership.

He added that the 1Malaysia concept is exemplified in Sarawak and that the country as a whole should emulate Sarawak’s success.

Meanwhile, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, who is also Publication Committee chairman, said in the preface that Taib has devoted more than 50 years to serving his beloved people of Sarawak, advancing all aspects of development including political, economic, social and physical.

He said present and future generations should get to know this icon better as Taib shaped the history of modern Sarawak to build a confident, harmonious and prosperous state understood and appreciated by all Malaysians, particularly Sarawakians.
