KUCHING: Kuching Bodhi Path Society managed to raise RM35,442 from the generous public through its ‘Go Bald’ fundraising events.

Its treasurer Irene Chu said that 14 people took the challenge to go bald, including a one-month 16-day-old baby girl Karmen Mah.

The fund will later be split equally here, with 50 per cent going to Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS) Kuching and the balance to Shar Minub Foundation – an institute of learning for Lamas – in Nepal, she said after a prayer-and-shaving ceremony yesterday.

Chu said the society will continue to do charitable work to help others and also their society elsewhere in the world.

As for Chu, this is her first experience of going bald and with no regrets.

“It is fun, refreshing and it is for charity. The hair can grow back again,” she laughed.

The prayer on the participants before the shaving event took place was conducted by Lama Jimpa Lodoe and his assistant Lama Sherap Namgyal.

The hair shaving was done by a professional hair-stylist, Strand Hair Boutique, with its director Aaron Lim personally involved in shaving participants’ hair and assisted by his staff Keith Lo.
