Monarch Lauds Close Ties with Malaysia in Fields of Academic

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his titah described Brunei Darussalam’s relations with Malaysia as very special and the closeness of both countries is evident from their cooperative relations in various fields including education, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

His Majesty expressed hope that the cooperation in education would continue to be enhanced from time to time. His Majesty also welcomed the participation of Malaysians wishing to further their studies at institutions of higher education in Brunei Darussalam. His Majesty made the titah at the Conferment Ceremony of the Honorary Doctorate of Law from Universiti Sains Malaysia (UMS). The ceremony was held at the Tuanku Syed Putra Hall, Universiti Sains Malaysia (UMS), Penang.

Upon arrival at Tuanku Syed Putra Hall, Universiti Sains Malaysia, His Majesty was greeted by His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, The Raja of Perlis, Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia; Her Royal Highness Tuanku Tengku Fauziah binti Al-Marhum Tengku Abdul Rashid, The Raja Perempuan of Perlis , His Excellency Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abbas, Yang Di-Pertua Negeri of Penang and wife, Yang Berbahagia Toh Puan Dato’ Seri Utama Hajah Majmor binti Sharif; Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Azlan bin Man, Chief Minister of Perlis; Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, the Minister of Education; Pro-Chancellors; the Vice Chancellor; Chairman of the Universiti Sains Malaysia Board of Governors; leaders and members of the University Council and academics.

Also present during the Conferment Ceremony were His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, the Raja Muda of Perlis and Her Royal Highness Tuanku Hajjah Lailatul Shahreen Dato’ Akashah Khalil, the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis.

The Conferment Ceremony began with citation of His Majesty by Professor Dato’ Omar Osman, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia. Then, His Royal Highness The Raja of Perlis, the Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia delivered a titah to confer the Honorary Doctorate of Law to His Majesty.

His Majesty then consented to receive the Honorary Doctorate of Law from His Royal Highness The Raja of Perlis, Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia.

His Majesty began his titah by thanking His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, The Raja of Perlis, Chancellor Universiti Sains Malaysia and members of the Universiti Sains Malaysia Council for the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate of Law from Universiti Sains Malaysia. The award will put on record priceless memories for His Majesty and Brunei Darussalam generally.

With the 50th Convocation, Universiti Sains Malaysia has had 144 thousand 266 alumni including 5 thousand 474 during this convocation and one thousand and eighty nine in the 49th convocation last April. Among those conferred degrees in this convocation was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tuanku Hajjah Lailatul Shahreen Dato’ Akashah Khalil, with a Masters Degree in Public Administration.

The conferment of the Honorary Doctorate in Law to His Majesty was in appreciation of His Majesty’s contributions in the fields of Law and Education. The conferment will encourage a wider scope of cooperative efforts between educational institutions of the two countries, especially in leadership, training, technical and vocational education as well as research visits.
