Baram White Water Rafting Challenge is back

MIRI: The annual Baram White Water Rafting Challenge will make a comeback on Nov 29, after a lapse of one year promising unique experiences for all participants.

Its Advisor and Telang Usan Assemblyman, Dennis Ngau said the challenge which entered its 8th edition this year, will be held at a new route from Long Aton to Long Luyang, offering a total cash prizes of RM16,200.

The 7th Baram White Water Rafting Challenge organised in 2012 was held from Long Tebangan to Long Naah.

“We welcome participants including expatriates and those from neighbouring Brunei, Sabah and elsewhere apart from locals and companies in the area to take part and make the event a lifetime experience they will always remember.

This Baram White Water Rafting Challenge has its own uniqueness like experiencing longhouse lifestyle, natural wonders besides cultural activities at the villages,” said Dennis yesterday at a press conference after chairing the organising committee meeting at the Miri Resident Office.

Also present was the Deputy Resident Miri, Emang Oyo Emang.

Dennis added the challenge, besides promoting greater interaction among the locals and participants, is to promote healthy lifestyle and promote Baram as a preferred eco-adventure sports destination in Sarawak.

The challenge is divided into two categories, Men Team Category and Women Team Category and each team must have a maximum of six participants (including one reserve).

For both categories, the prizes for first, second and third placings are RM2,000, RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively including trophies and medals while the fourth to 15 placings, RM300 each.

All participants will be given Certificate of Participation.

Entrance fee is RM50 per team and the closing date is November 21.

Rafts are available for sale at RM300 each.
