PUJUT assemblyman Fong Pau Teck told the august house yesterday that he is a ‘Chief Minister-friendly’ independent.

When debating on the Budget speech, Fong said the chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is people-friendly when declaring that he is not a racist and not a religious extremist.

Fong said that to prove his point Adenan even said that he would not allow BN lynchpin party Umno to set foot in Sarawak and also frowned upon seizure of the Bibles by the authorities.

He believed Adenan has won the hearts of the Chinese by speaking up for and being receptive to the requests of Chinese medium schools.

Fong insisted that other BN leaders should emulate the chief minister on being firm over racial harmony and unity.

“Few months ago the chief minister asked me if I am BN-friendly. I said I was people-friendly. But if he is to ask me again
today, I would say that I am CM-friendly plus people-friendly,” said Fong.

When pressed by the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar on his current status, Fong insisted that he is an independent elected representative.

Fong, a former DAP member, was seen to lean towards PKR in his political stand following his fallout with DAP leadership in November 2013.

At one particular time this year, speculation was rife that he was approached by new party Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras).

However leaders of Teras denied the claim while Fong said he would be observing Teras from a distance.
