UPP receives ROS approval to set up 3 more branches

KUCHING: United People’s Party (UPP) is set to have 26 branches throughout Sarawak; with three pro tem branches given the green light by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

Representatives from the Serian, Tarat and Sri Aman pro tem branches yesterday met up with UPP pioneer committee chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh to receive copies of the UPP Constitution from him at his office in Petra Jaya here.

Receiving on behalf of Serian branch was its pro tem chief Cr Senior William Rade, while Cr Lee Sin Fah and Cr David Lau Pung Chung received them on behalf of the Tarat and Sri Aman pro tem branches respectively.

Among those present to witness the event were political secretaries to the chief minister Andrew Shilling and Suzanne Lee Tze Ha as well as Kapitan Lee Sip Choon.

“The ROS has given our party approval to form three more branches.

“With the registration of the three branches later on, UPP is set to have a total of 26 branches throughout Sarawak (thus far). Most of the party branches were formed in the month of November,” said Wong.

When met later, Lee said UPP would have its inaugural delegates’ conference to elect office bearers for the main body on Jan 11 next year and most of its branches would hold their respective annual general meetings (AGM) this month.

She added that Piasau, Pujut, Senadin and Bekenu branches in the northern region would have their AGM simultaneously on Nov 23, and believed that several branches in the southern region would hold theirs this weekend.

Later, representatives from Sri Aman branch toured the State Legislative Assembly complex.

UPP was registered as a political party in July this year.

It was formed following the resignation of Wong (Bawang Assan assemblyman) and three other assemblymen namely Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (Bengoh), Dr Johnical Rayong (Engkiili) and Ranum Mina (Opar) from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) by initially parking at Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) on May 15.
