SARIKEI: The Marine Operations Force seized logs from a timber camp in Loba Lepah, Paloh near here yesterday.

Police personnel check on the logs believed to have been extracted illegally.

Region 5 Commander ACP Kalai ChelvanIn said during the operation code-named ‘Ops Pensura’ around 11.30am, his men inspected the timber camp and found logs of various species and sizes stacked by the riverbank.

“All in all there were about 2,000 logs of various species and sizes, which were estimated to be worth about RM202,500,” he said.

The logs are believed to have been illegally extracted from the area.

This is an offence under the Forests Ordinance 1958.

“No arrest was made as there was no worker at the camp,” said Kalai.

He added that the logs have since been handed over to the Forest Department for further action.
