Motorcyclist in coma after hit-and-run by a car

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A hardware shop worker is in a coma after his motorcycle was rammed by a car in a hit-and-run incident here on Tuesday night.

The victim, in his 40s, was travelling back to his house at Kampung Kuap Melayu after work around 7pm when an unidentified car rammed into him from behind and sped off.

Passing motorists stopped to help him and were able to contact his family members who rushed him to the nearby Heart Institute where he was treated before being referred to Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.

The victim said to have suffered head injuries remains in a coma.

In a separate incident, a woman sought medical attention after she was punched and slapped by snatch thieves near her house at Mile 6 Jalan Matang in Kuching on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old had just left a tuckshop and was making her way back to a nearby flat complex around 5pm when two unknown men on a motorcycle stopped beside her.

According to the victim, the pillion rider got off from the bike, slapped her cheek and punched her face twice. He then grabbed her mobile phone and walked back to the motorcycle before escaping with his accomplice.

The victim, who suffered bruises on her face, sought treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.
