This year’s EUFF is coming to Sarawak and Sabah after the openings in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

KUCHING: The European Union Film Festival (EUFF) returns to Malaysia for the 15th edition, with an array of the best cinematic offerings from the bloc.

The showcase will feature 21 award-winning movies and documentaries from 17 European countries at selected Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) nationwide, with the Sarawak leg to be held at CityONE Megamall from Nov 27 to Dec 3, and Sabah’s Suria Sabah Mall Kota Kinabalu on Dec 11-17.

The earlier runs were at MidValley Megamall, 1Utama and the Pavillion in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 30-Nov 9, as well as Penang’s Gurney Plaza Georgetown on Nov 13-19.

The eclectic line-up at this year’s EUFF ranges from comedy, romance and drama to animation and documentaries. Highlights include ‘The Best Offer’ by well-known director Giuseppe Tornatore, with music composed by Ennio Morricone who won the Best Composer Award for the movie at the 26th
European Film Awards last December.

Other notable mentions are Belgium’s Oscar-nominated ‘The Broken Circle Breakdown’; as well as Denmark’s ‘The Hunt’ which garnered the Best Actor award at 2012 Cannes Film Festival 2012 and ‘A Royal Affair’ which was among nominees for Best Foreign Language Film at last year’s Golden Globes and Academy Awards.

Finland’s ‘Niko 2 – Little Brother, Big Trouble’ is the only animated movie this year’s EUFF. It was awarded with the Grand Prix for ‘Best Film – Feature Section’ at last year’s Tokyo Kinder Film Festival. On the other hand, British movie ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ claimed the Best Documentary honour in 2011 Independent Spirits Awards.

Tickets for the EUFF go for RM7 apiece, except for ‘The Best Offer’ (Italy) which follows prevailing pricing rates, while ‘Snow White’ (Spain) and ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ are being screened for free.

Tickets can be purchased via GSC e-Payment at www.gsc.com.my, GSC Mobile App (iOS, Android and Windows Phone) or at participating GSC outlets.

The 15th EUFF is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia and the Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with embassies and cultural institutions of 14 other EU member states, as well as those of Norway and Switzerland.

The festival is also supported by local partner organisations GSC, GSC Movies, BFM, TNT Express Worldwide, Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu, Time Out Kuala Lumpur and Penang as well as Expatriate Lifestyle, Carlsberg Malaysia, Newskaki and KK French Friendship Association of Sabah.
