SIBU: Members of the public may walk down memory lane of Sibu happenings through news photographs displayed at a 3-day exhibition themed ‘News in Photographs’.

Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King declared open the exhibition at SMC Heritage Gallery on Monday night.

Tiong said the photo exhibition reminded visitors of past happenings.

“Photographs about news events can over time tell many exciting and interesting stories. They can serve as a rich heritage which, as a community, we can share with a sense of commonness and togetherness,” he said.

He said the legacy of news photographs bore the patience and hard work of local reporters.

Congratulating Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) for hosting the event, he said the exhibition was a meaningful activity.

“A good photograph can tell a story without exaggeration. A photograph can capture the gist of an incident more powerfully if taken in the right perspective,” he enthused.

“Seizing the snap from the right angle and at the right time is a challenging task for reporters,” he said, noting that many reporters had managed it well and in colour.

Also present at the event were Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau, SMC deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong, Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman Oliver Kuo, Dudong assemblyman Yap Hoi Leong, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Pau Kiew Chuang, Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) president Hu Yu Siong and exhibition organising chairman who is SJA chairman Yii Souk Ming.
