Woodlands shaping up as a premier school

SIBU: Woodlands International School (Woodlands) has slowly, but surely taken shape as a premier school, noted a member of its directors’ board, Dato James Tai.

He said the presence of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem at the recent official opening of the school was something the school took pride in.

“That event will be recorded in the annals of Woodlands as a premiere chapter of our school,” he said in his speech during the school’s annual gathering held at the Le’ Ark Café here Monday evening.

Tai said a few guests had also expressed their recognition and support for Woodlands’ efforts to make a difference in education.

As an international school and at its infant stage, Woodlands was under the constant public scrutiny in its performance, he said.

“As a team working together, we are confident of facing challenges. We want our students to do well in their studies.

“This is for sure. We earnestly want them to have a better command of English, which is an international language.

“At the same time, we also want our students to develop a good character of positive values. The vision of Woodlands – which is for a holistic education and Godly Character – must become a living testimony in our celebration for learning.

“I am proud and pleased that our Woodlands hall could be completed about two months ago and in time to be used to host our first school production – “The Sound of Music”.

“I hope we could make the best use of our Woodlands hall for sports and games as well as for holding more performing arts,” Tai stated.

He said the improvement of other sports and games facilities could definitely welcome a new school year with more excitement and expectations.

The extension of the school block, he said, would begin construction soon.

In time to come, there would be more classrooms and tutorial rooms, a resource library, one recreation centre for students, a theatre as well as a meeting room, he enthused.

“In addition, there will be a proper administration office for teachers and staff and ample parking spaces under shade.

“Our ultimate aim is to turn Woodlands into a truly premium international school with all the supporting facilities and amenities.

“I must say it again that our students are the primary concern of Woodlands, and we must give them every opportunity to learn and improve.

“At the same time, teachers are our most valuable assets – their capacity, attitude and dedication to education will determine how successful we can be in translating our vision for a holistic education with Godly Character into a shining testimony.

“I believe your mission as Woodlands teachers can be a meaningful and fulfilling journey towards achieving a better and more progressive humanity,” Tai told the teachers.

At the function, Woodlands Board of Directors chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King handed over a letter of appointment to the newly appointed principal, Miguel Angel Sanchez Lopez.

Also present was chairman of Woodlands Board of Governors, Daniel Ngieng Kiong Ann.
