LABUAN: The Labuan Health Department yesterday gave the assurance that the incidence of leptospirosis on the duty-free island is under control.
Its director, Dr Ismail Ali, said the department was constantly monitoring the situation and advised the people to ensure that their residential and business premises were free of rats.
“We hope the community and eateries will work closely with the local authority in the matter,” he said after a briefing on leptospirosis and dengue at the Labuan Market complex here.
Twelve cases of leptospirosis, including one death, were reported on the island this year up to November, he said. He also said that 11 cases of dengue were reported so far this year, but there were no deaths from the disease.
The department’s enforcement team and the local authority were working together in addressing the dengue outbreak with regular inspections, he added. — Bernama
