Malaysia Beat Asia All Stars 3-1

KUALA LUMPUR: The national badminton squad collected another three points when they defeated Asia All Stars 3-1 in their second match of the 2014 Axiata Cup Badminton Championship at Bratama Arena, Jakarta yesterday.

National singles player, Chong Wei Feng was made to sweat for the first point but he defeated Hu Yun of Hong Kong in three sets, 21-18, 15-21 and 21-16.

However, national women’s singles, Tee Jing Yi lost to Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan in straight sets of 19-21 and 16-21.

Men’s doubles pair of Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong easily collected Malaysia’s second point by beating Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy 21-15 and 21-15.

Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Lai Pi Jing clinched the match for Malaysia when they defeated Lee Chun Hei and Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong 21-18 and 21-15.

In the first round on Thursday, Malaysia collected three points after beating Vietnam, 3-1.

In the third preliminary round, Malaysia will meet Indonesia tomorrow at noon local time.

The championship format comprises eight teams from six countries and two invitational teams representing Asia and Europe.

The participating countries are Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand.— Bernama
