Police seize pistol, knife from shop assistant

MIRI: Miri Police arrested a 33-year-old shop assistant for possessing a homemade hand gun at his house in Taman Tunku at about 11.30pm Monday.

Police also seized ammunitions inside a bag and also a big knife.

It was learnt that before his arrest, the suspect threatened two men with the gun who met him to pay compensation on behalf of their friend who had scratched his car.

He was said to have pointed the gun to the victim’s head and cheek during their meeting at Airport Road at about 10.30pm also on Monday night.

However, after the victim clarified to the suspect that they were not the one who scratched his car, he then immediately apologised.

Miri police chief, ACP Gan Tian Kee when contacted yesterday confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

He said the police were investigating the case under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960 for possessing or carrying arms and ammunitions without an arms license or arms permit.
