KUCHING: The Site Safety Supervisor Competency Course is now available in Sarawak.
As one of the Department of Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH) approved training centres, People and Skills Sdn Bhd is promoting and conducting the course, in Miri and Bintulu.
The first class will start on Dec 10 at a promotional course fee of RM1,650.
All Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) contractors will be eligible to earn 20 contractor continuous development (CCD) point for this course.
With Reference to Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officer) Regulations 1997 and Factories and Machinery (Building Operations and Works of Engineering Construction) (Safety), Regulations 1986, main contractors are required to employ competent site safety supervisors at the place of work for any building operation and works of engineering construction projects with a construction sum of less than RM20 million.
Sub-contractors with 20 or more workers must employ competent contractor’s safety supervisors at the place of work.
In general both the site safety supervisors and contractor safety supervisors shall be responsible to ensure that the provisions of statutory requirements with respect to safety and health matter are complied with.
They also must promote the safe conduct of work, and inspect and rectify any unsafe practices or conditions.
The ultimate goal of this Site Supervisor Competency Course is to produce capable and reliable site safety supervisors by equipping them with relevant knowledge pertaining to their role and responsibilities as stipulated under the said Act.
The target audience involves all individuals working in the construction industries, especially those who are directly involved –site foreman or supervisors, safety supervisors or all individuals who are interested.
All participants will be awarded a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course as well as the certificate of competency from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) upon successfully passing the competency examination.
Successful candidates will obtain a Yellow Book upon registration with DOSH.
