SIBU: Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh wants members of the Sibu Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners’ Association (SCSROA) to work closely with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) to make ‘Visit Sibu Year 2016’ a success.

He made this call when SCSROA representatives called on him on Tuesday.

Considering that food and drinks are important in projecting a good image, he advised that all eating places be kept clean and tidy and that only hygienic food are served to patrons.

“People come to Sibu not just for sightseeing but also to savour good food,” he added.

On another matter, Wong reminded hawkers to work closely with the town council in resolving problems.

He said the Visit Sibu Year 2016 is a brainchild of Sibu Municipal Council to draw tourists to the town.

“Things that had been done included upgrading of roads, improving commercial centres and the Central Market.

“The council has provided new tables and chairs, fans and other facilities to the Central Market,” he elaborated.

He thus called on residents here to play their bit in ensuring that their town becomes a popular tourist destination.

Leading SCSROA members at the visit was their chairman Tiong Ink Kok.

During the visit, Tiong told Wong that the association would hold a Christmas celebration on Dec 22 at the Sibu Gateway, and officially invited Wong to be the guest-of-honour.

“We’ve the collaboration of some church groups for this celebration.

“There will be stage performances, and we welcome everyone to turn up,” he said.
