KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin believes that good ties between Malaysia and China can maintain political stability in the Asian region.

He said this was because Malaysia was among the countries that invited the republic to join Asean+3, to strengthen ties between China and countries in Asean.

He said that diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China covered various sectors such as politics, economy and culture and indirectly the relationship was extended to other Asean countries through China’s participation in Asean+3.

“Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China are not only limited to one thing, not just trade relations, economic relations, or political relations, but in fact this relationship runs across multiple sectors in terms of economy, cultural exchange, and also the migration of Chinese to Malaysia in the past,” he said.

He was speaking at a ceremony to welcome 100 Chinese delegates at the Malaysia-China Youth Exchange Dinner Programme here, tonight.

The Chinese youth delegation was headed by Deputy Secretary General of All China Youth Federation (ACYF), Yang Song.

The Chinese delegation is on a seven-day visit to the country and has visited Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and the capital since Saturday as part of a return visit after a Malaysian youth delegation visited the country in May.

Khairy said the youths of the two countries should play their roles and responsibilities to ensure that future relations between the two countries was reinforced.

“We actually have an important responsibility to ensure that in the next 40 years, we can strengthen our relationship just as our past visionary leaders had done so with aplomb.

“Our duty is to ensure that this good relationship can be further strengthened for future ties,” he said. — BERNAMA
