KUCHING: Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) lit its 16-metre tall Christmas tree on Tuesday.

Sarawak Tourism Board CEO Datuk’ Rashid Khan officiated at the event witnessed by BCCK CEO Eric van Piggelen, senior management, industry partners, clients, suppliers and other invited guests.

“We would also like to acknowledge generous contributions from our sponsors, which went a long way towards the preparations for our Christmas celebration,” said van Piggelen. He said 2014 has been a very rewarding year for BCCK and the festive season is a good time to celebrate that success with stakeholders.

BCCK hosted numerous events this year ranging from 10 to 6,000 participants for local, national and international events including the Asean Tourism Forum 2014, Routes Asia 2014, The Borneo Post International Education Fair (BPIEF) 2013, Soroptimist International South West Pacific Conference of Clubs 2014, the Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the World Organisation of Family Doctors (Wonca) 2014, Perfect Livin’ Home and Lifestyle exhibition, as well as the Sheda Property Expo 2014.

BCCK’s food and beverage offerings, van Piggelen said also continued to rival top establishments here.

“Our culinary enhancement programme, which gives our team of chefs the opportunity to explore and express their culinary inspirations, has resulted in the creation of some popular signature dishes, now offered in both Raintree Restaurant and Raintree Cafe in Plaza Merdeka,” he added. A group of 43 children from the Salvation Army performed Christmas carols during the event and Christmas presents were later distributed to the children.

Guests also joined the Christmas buffet dinner, which showcased Raintree Restaurant’s festive Christmas offerings.
