KUALA TERENGGANU: Flood victims who had lost their car or motorcycle licences can obtain new ones for free at Road Transport Department (RTD) counters nationwide.

RTD director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said it was to help ease their burden as they had suffered substantial loses in the disaster.

“I urge them renew their missing licences for free at RTD offices. Normally, the fee for a driving licence is RM30 and for motorcycle RM20.

“Although, the amount is small, but it will surely ease the financial burden of flood victims,” he told reporters in conjunction with ‘RTD Director-General Meets The Kuala Terengganu Customers Day’ at the RTD Office here, yesterday.

The 10am-12noon programme successfully solved 32 cases involving single mothers, students and the poor. In addition, Ismail said traffic enforcement tasks next year would be assisted by the RTD Young Squad 1 who would act as the eyes and ears of other enforcement agencies, namely, RTD, Land Public Transport Commission and the Royal Malaysian Police.

“To date, we have recruited 45,000 members of the squad nationwide. Recruitment is still open to those aged 16 years and above who have car driving licence or motorcycle riding licence.

“The implementation will boost the awareness of road users to be more courteous when on the road,” he said. — Bernama
