Malaysian passenger on QZ8501 hails from Bintangor

SIBU: Family members of the only Malaysian passenger on missing AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore this morning are praying for the safety of 56-year-old Sii Chung Huei.

Hailing from Bintangor, he moved to Sibu and then Kuching. He works as a supervisor in a timber company in Surabaya and travels frequently between Indonesia and Sarawak. He had booked his flight to Singapore on Boxing Day.

Sii has three children.

The AirAsia Indonesia aircraft was carrying 155 passengers comprising 138 adults, 16 children and a baby, and seven crew members when it disappeared from radar while on a flight from Surabaya to Singapore this morning.

The Airbus A320-200 aircraft took off from Juanda International Airport at 5.30 am (Surabaya time) before losing contact with the air traffic control centre at 7.24 am (Surabaya time).

The plane was scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 8.20 am.
