Uphold integrity, display innovativeness — Wong

KUCHING: Civil servants must always uphold integrity and display innovativeness to ensure the government is able to continue to serve the people well.

In stating this, Local Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said such values were important as they represented the foundation for good service delivery.

“In delivering services to the people, we need quality individuals who are disciplined, innovative in their work, and holds to the principle of integrity,” said Wong at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Integrity Day here yesterday.

On the Integrity Day, Wong said the initiative by MBKS to have the Integrity Pledge, which also involved its staff and contractors, as a step towards transparent and quality service.

“Through such an effort, it is my wish that the staff of MBKS can perform their duties by observing the four practices as stated in a Chinese saying — maintaining good relationships among humans, smart in making decisions, having a self integrity, and dignity.”

MBKS Mayor Datuk James Chan, in his speech, said Kuching was still the preferred choice for those looking to set up businesses as the city had a clean local government, is efficient, and is business friendly.

“We are happy that integrity has always been something that we take seriously as part of our policy.”

The event yesterday also featured a talk by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC).

It also saw the presence of MBKS deputy mayor Abang Affandi Abang Anuar and acting secretary John Lee Hok Kong.
