MIRI: Sarawak Government Pensioners’ Association (PPKS) Miri branch has appointed Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang as their patron.

Branch chairman Dennin Fredericks led the office-bearers in making a courtesy call on Ahmad Lai to present the association’s corporate uniform to him at his office in Piasau yesterday.

During the courtesy call, Dennin introduced to Ahmad the new office-bearers in the Miri branch.

“We are hoping to revive our recruitment campaign. At the moment, we have about 400 members from Miri, Bekenu and Marudi.”

He said their target to attract 1,000 members is achievable if each member can recruit five to 10 new members.

The association plans to offer incentives to members’ children who excel in public exams.

They also seek advice from Ahmad Lai to repair the association’s office which is in poor condition.

Ahmad Lai wanted them to make an assessment on the cost of repairing the association’s office for him to get government funds.

He also suggested the association apply for a piece of land from the state government to build its office.

Ahmad Lai was made advisor of the association.

He advised the office-bearers to give equal focus to member’s welfare, in particular the poor and sick.
