‘Feedback helps to track garbage collection’

SIBU: Garbage collection will only improve when the public keeps tabs on the service, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek branch Youth chief Joseph Chieng suggested.

He urged residents to help monitor the service if they wanted it to be improved.

Chieng told a press conference yesterday that many people had complained about the garbage collection service.

“Based on the agreement between the garbage collection contractors and the Sibu Municipal Council, collection is to be carried out twice a day in commercial areas and three days a week in residential areas,” he noted.

He said it was also stipulated in the agreement that the contractor should accept liability for any damage to garbage bins due to poor handling by its refuse collectors.

He reminded the public members that they had the right to complain to the council if they found the service below their expectations.

“Council’s complaints hotline is 084-310808.

“If your garbage bin is damaged by the collectors, call this number to give your name and address, and assistance should be forthcoming” he advised.

Alternatively, call SUPP Bukit Assek Service Centre on 084-313566, he added.
