KUCHING: Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has called on members to strengthen their solidarity and work together at every level for the success of the association.

He also said that members must sharpen their leadership skills and be brave enough to venture into the global world.

This he added will enhance their own and the state’s economy by tapping into the lucrative food and agro based industries in the South East Asia region.

“The business of the future is not confined only in Sarawak or Malaysia but we are open to the opportunities at the global market. Together, we can build Sarawak to be second to none,” said Abang Johari during the Saberkas Christmas 2014 and New Year Dinner at Grand Margherita hotel here on Friday night.

He said among the promising products from Sarawak that can be exported is the Sarawak Laksa and the highly priced Empurau fish.

“We have all the facilities and the market. What we are missing now are youths who have the heart to pursue this challenge,” said Abang Johari who is also Minister of Tourism and Housing.

Meanwhile, touching on the programmes by Saberkas in 2014, Abang Johari applauded the working committees in every division for their hard work and success.

“This is the whole point of Saberkas where we let our youth members lead in organising events and programmes. This will in turn prepare them to be future leaders and take over the reins once our time is up,” he added.

He also announced an allocation of RM2,000 to each Saberkas units in the state to fund their activities.

Also present at the dinner was Saberkas vice-president Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Sharifah Hasidah Aman Ghazali, secretary general Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Saberkas Tasik Biru chairman Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie and organising chairman Gabriel Jatu.
