96 illegals detained in Tawau

TAWAU: Police detained 96 illegal immigrants including women and children on Wednesday in a crime prevention/illegal immigrants operation.

District police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said those caught were 62 men, 29 women, two boys and two girls aged between 12 to 70.

He said the operation started from 4am to 10am and focused at Kampung Sri Aman at Mile 3 Apas Road, Kampung Hidayat/Kampung Kurnia Jaya at Mile 4 Apas Road, and the vegetable and fish market.

Awang said the operations were conducted together with the general operations force, the marine police unit, police volunteers and the Immigration Department.

He added that three men between 26 to 44 years old were also detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act for drug abuse.

He said after the documentation process by the Immigration Department, 41 people were further detained with 13 men and seven women from Philippines, 15 men and 6 women from Indonesia.
