KUCHING: Several low-lying areas here and Kota Samarahan were flooded yesterday following non-stop downpour since Saturday.
Inundated by more than three feet of water were Kampung Sindang, Desa Ilmu, Samarahindah, Kampung Tuang in Kota Samarahan; Taman Duranda Emas, Kampung Gundah and Batu 15 in Suburan; and Kampung Maan, Sungai Riset, Kerumboi, Patung, Menjau and Teng Bukap in Puncak Borneo.
The village clinic in Teng Bukap was also inundated by flood waters.
Villages made impassable to vehicles included Skuduk, Plaman Payang, Chupak, Sikog and Mundai.
Batu Kitang was generally all right yesterday even though there were flash floods at various stretches of some roads.
Residents in Bengoh area, like Kampung Bratan, Giam, Bawang and Semedang, have been placed on alert for possible evacuation.
Tapah Bazaar, along Mile 22 of Jalan Kuching-Serian, was also not spared as 25 nearby houses were also affected by overflowing waters from the nearby river.
There have been no directives for residents to evacuate en masse, except for members of four households in Rantau Panjang, Batu Kawa, whose houses were inundated by water of more than three feet.
They were asked to move to higher grounds, but it was believed the water level receded yesterday.
