Rescue team member escapes landslide in the nick of time

KUCHING: If he had been one second late, a member of the flood relief rescue team would himself have been killed in a landslide which occurred at Jalan Puncak Borneo, Padawan about 50 kilometres from here on Monday.

The assistant administration officer in the Padawan District Office, Paymore Pawan, who was on duty at the flood relief operations room, told Bernama yesterday that he was grateful that he was not a victim of the landslide.

He said in the incident which occurred at about 9.30am on Monday, he was driving his car to survey the flood situation around Jalan Puncak Borneo.

“As I was driving, I noticed a crack along the road and picked up speed. Not more than a
minute later, there was a landslide, causing the whole road to be cut off.

“I was able to drive to a safe place. The situation was alarming…it was like a scene in a film,” he said.

Although he was rattled, Paymore braved himself to get out of his car which was badly damaged at the front to check on a house which was buried in the landslide.

“I was informed by a neighbour that an old couple who lived in the house had coincidentally gone to visit
their son who was a flood
victim in Kampung Simpok, Padawan,” said Paymore. — Bernama
