Cops nab suspected ‘shoe thief’

MIRI: A 30-year-old ‘shoe thief’ was caught red-handed early yesterday morning, after an alert neighbour spotted the suspect climbing up the fence of a house in MDL Garden here.

The neighbour immediately called the police as he suspected the man was up to no good.

Patrolling policemen in a mobile police vehicle (MPV) with the help of a CID team conducting ‘Ops Pintu’ who happened to pass by the area dashed to the scene and collared the man.

The arrest was made at around 1am. Upon conducting a body check on him, police discovered a syringe inside one of his pockets, believed to be used for injecting illegal substance.

According to sources, the man had been stealing several shoes within the residential area for the past few months.

He has been brought to Miri Central Police Station to assist police in their investigation.
