JITRA: The father of Nursyuhada Johari, who died after a man slit her throat on Monday, had lodged a police report against him four years ago for harassing her. Nursyuhada, 20, was a student of Universiti Teknologi Mara in Permatang Pauh.

Her father Johari Hashim, 55, said the suspect was from the same village and had been harassing Nursyuhada since she was in Form Five.

The suspect had said he wanted a serious relationship with her but this did not happen as he was suspected to be a drug addict.

“Although my daughter only wanted to be friends, the suspect wanted a serious relationship, but I stopped it because he was suspected to be a drug addict. She had told me before that he was always harassing her, so I telephoned him and sent him an SMS not to disturb her.

“I had also lodged a police report about him four years ago. After that, he started to work in Melaka as a cook so I reminded him to stop disturbing her after which she never talked about him again,” he told reporters here yesterday. However, Johari said when his daughter told him that the suspect was still disturbing her, he decided to send an SMS again, reminding him not to do it.

He said the suspect’s family knew about his behaviour as he had previously been aggressive by breaking down the door of his house in Taman Hosba here before running off with his (Johari’s) daughter in a car.

However, Johari said, his family managed to find her. “I did not think the suspect would behave irrationally and was very shocked when her classmate contacted my wife Nor Azlina Dawari, 44, and informed her that she had got into his car after she was threatened,” he said. Johari said the suspect had threatened to stab her if she refused to follow him in the car.

“Mu wife tried to contact her several times but her calls were not answered. She then contacted the suspect’s parents, asking them to contact their son and to send Nursyuhada back, Johari said.

He added that the suspect’s father then contacted his son before informing him that his son had slit Nursyuhada’s throat. However, at that time, she was still breathing as the hospital had informed him that they were trying to save her life. Johari said he hoped the suspect would be given an appropriate sentence for what he did to Nursyuhada. “I hope a heavy penalty is given to the suspect.

I understand that he has been taken to the police station and was told that he has a mental problem,” he said. Johari said the suspect had said he had not been taking drugs for a long time, but he suspected this could have been a ploy to avoid a heavy penalty.

He added that there was a possibility the man’s reaction was because he was very angry with Nursyuhada for rejecting him. Johari said the last time he saw his daughter was in early January when he sent her to the bus station in Shahab Perdana, Alor Setar before she returned to the university campus.

Nursyuhada was buried at the Muslim cemetery in Kampung Cherok Mokkan here at 11 am yesterday. — Bernama
