Chef Wan in action at Popular cooking workshop

KUCHING: Celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, more popularly known as Chef Wan, was in town yesterday to conduct a cooking workshop in conjunction with Popular Bookstore’s 80 stores nationwide celebration.

The workshop was organised by the bookstore at the Four Points Hotel. The bookstore was recently recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest bookstore chain in the country.

During the workshop, some 200 lucky ticket holders were privileged to watch the Malaysian culinary legend in action while learning and getting valuable food preparation tips from him.

“It is a privilege to be here today in Kuching city and I am also proud to see that many turned up today to participate in this workshop of mine. I do believe that I have many fans here,” he enthused.

Four menus were prepared by him during the workshop; namely Walnut and Apple Muffin, Tropical Chicken Salad, Madura Roast Chicken and Apple and Pear Tart with Butterscotch Sauce.

Participants also had a chance to participate along with Chef Wan in making Walnut and Apple Muffin and Tropical Chicken Salad with the mise en place (dishes, ingredients) readied by the organisers at their tables.

Meanwhile, 23 participants won special prizes provided by the organisers during the event.

Chef Wan is currently promoting his latest book entitled ‘400 Resipi Terbaik Chef Wan: Meraikan Kegemilangan 40 Tahun Pengalaman Kulinari’ which is now available in stores nationwide including Popular Bookstore.

“I have published quite a number of books during my 40-year career as a chef. This latest one here is a compilation of my favourite dishes and cuisines,” he added.
