KUCHING: A routine inspection by a team of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) compliance assessors turned out to be not so routine when they found and detained 312 logs that were suspected to have been illegally extracted from just outside a licensed area in Tatau, Bintulu on Saturday.
In a press statement from the office of SFC CEO, they had reason to believe that the 312 logs of more than 500 cubic metres of timber had been illegally extracted from an adjacent area by a contractor licensee.
The statement further said SFC would continue to be on the lookout for such sneaky exploits by supposedly legitimate logging operators.
The detained logs would be handed over to Forest Department for further action.
