LIMBANG: Taman Cahaya residents are calling on the authorities to take quick remedial measures to prevent further soil erosion that had been caused by incessant rain since last Sunday.

A single mother in her 40s who only wanted to be called Lau yesterday said this was the first time such a landslide occurred since they moved there in 2009. It happened around 11.30am on Sunday after a night of heavy downpour.

Lau said the contractor for the housing estate did come to access the situation and he covered the affected area with a canvas. But continued heavy rain further aggravated the problem and made the erosion area wider.

Meanwhile, Public Works Department Limbang Division engineer Anding Unchi, when contacted, advised the affected residents to report the erosion to the local council and Resident’s Office for them to initiate further action.

He said only the landslide at Kuala Medalam Road had been reported to the department so far. The road, which connects to nine villagers, two primary schools and a government clinic, was, however, still accessible.
