JPJ will ensure express bus operators are law-abiding

KUCHING: Express bus operators are reminded to be law-abiding. This advice came from State Road Transport Department (JPJ director Ibrahim Othman at a meeting at Kuching Sentral yesterday which was attended by representatives from seven express bus companies.

He said JPJ will carry out a special operation starting today until February 27 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year season.

During the special operation period, the JPJ ops room at Kuching Sentral bus terminal will serve as the base for JPJ officials on duty.

These officials will be inspecting buses especially their tyres, brakes and other technical and mechanical aspects to ensure the buses are in good condition to ply their routes.

Also with the help of Anti-Drugs Agency officials, they will test the urine of all bus drivers and second drivers to ensure they are drug-free.

State JPJ deputy director Kuek Joi Hock, engineer Wong Teck Chang, Kuching Sentral bus terminal operations manager Stanley Ong and others were also present at the meeting.
