KOTA KINABALU: An airport taxi driver and a motorcyclist were killed in an accident at Jalan SRK Petagas near the Perodua showroom in Putatan here on Saturday.

Acting Penampang police chief DSP Azmir Abdul Razak said the accident happened around 9.50pm.

Ahmad Ismail, 58, who was on the way from Putatan to Kota Kinabalu, had parked his Toyota Innova taxi on the road shoulder.

The motorcyclist, Mohd Qayyum Kushahril Mazlan, 21, who was on the way to Petagas, apparently did not notice Ahmad was crossing the road when he knocked into him.

Mohd Qayyum was thrown off his motorcycle and landed about 40 metres away near the railway tracks. Ahmad, on the other hand, landed in front of a Mazda vehicle travelling towards Putatan following the collision.

He was pronounced dead on the spot from severe head injuries by paramedics who arrived at the location in an ambulance.

Mohd Qayyum was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of severe head and hand injuries.

He succumbed to his injuries at 6.55am yesterday.

Both victims were believed to be free from the influence of alcohol.

Azmir said the case was investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
