SIBU: The Bumiputera Minority Technical Committee will forward the recommendation to use the word ‘Dayak’ to replace the ‘Others’ or ‘Lain-lain’ in official government forms to the federal cabinet for endorsement.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu disclosed this after the technical committee meeting held in Putra Jaya yesterday.

“As far as Sarawak is concerned, the technical committee has agreed and we will submit to the Federal Cabinet that recommendation to use the word ‘Dayak’ in government forms later on.

“If there is any other inclusion to be made later on in addition to the word ‘Dayak’ to accommodate other ethnic groups in Sarawak, that will be subject to further discussions, either by the technical committee and/or federal cabinet,” Entulu, who is Selangau MP and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) deputy president said when contacted.

The meeting was co-chaired by Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili and Minister of Plantations Industries and Commodities Dato Sri Douglas Uggah.

Entulu has recommended that the word ‘Dayak’ to the Bumiputera Minority Technical Committee to replace ‘Others’ or ‘Lain-lain’ in official government forms.

He said the decision was based on the unanimous finding after having met with Dayak professionals and Dayak-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Sibu, Miri and Kuching recently to consult and gather their views to come up with the best classification.
