160 Umno division heads, Wanita Umno pledge support for Prime Minister’s commitment to resolve 1MDB issue

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 160 Umno Division heads throughout the country and Wanita Umno pledged their full support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s commitment to resolve the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.

Najib who is also Umno president had during a closed door meeting yesterday briefed the Division heads about the 1MDB issue at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said during the meeting Najib had clarified certain pressing issues, including the 1MDB.

“All (Division heads) pledged their support to the Prime Minister who has been maliciously attacked by certain parties. It is our responsibility to be with the prime minister to thwart such malicious act,” he told reporters after the meeting, here yesterday.

Ismail Sabri who is also the Bera Umno division head said the Division heads would be seriously concerned if there was any wrong doing in the 1MDB.

He said Najib reiterated his commitment that the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) must verify the company’s accounts independently for transparent inspection.

Asked about the absence of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the meeting, Ismail Sabri said Muhyiddin who is also the Umno deputy president was keen to attend but had other prior commitments.

He said a number of other Umno heads were also not present due to prior commitments, including Kedah Umno head Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Johor Umno chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Meanwhile, Umno Wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said Wanita Umno fully supported Najib’s pledge to resolve the 1MDB issue because the wing was confident with the capability of Najib to ensure the stability of the nation and administer the government well.

“Wanita Umno as the backbone, unanimously support Najib because we trust his capabilities,” she told reporters after the Global Mentoring Walk 2015 (GMW) programme organised by the MyWIN Academy, here yesterday.

Shahrizat said the accusations about 1MDB was a ploy by the opposition to discredit the good work of Najib’s administration. — Bernama
