KUCHING: The ‘DUN N.30 Saribas’ Facebook page is still active despite a police report lodged against it by Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam a week ago.

The page, which at press time, had garnered 133 likes, is believed to have been set up by opposition politicians based on postings that disparaged some of the current Barisan Nasional leaders.

Razi, who officiated at a function organised by Saberkas and Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (Azam) yesterday, did not specifically talk about the page, but he acknowledged the power of social media such as Facebook which can reach audiences worldwide to do damage to people’s reputation.

Razi himself administers one account on Facebook for his constituency under the name ‘Mysaribas Sarawak’ which mostly publicises his own activities in the constituency.

On February 28, Razi lodged a police report at the Gita police station to distant himself from the ‘DUN N 30 Saribas’ Facebook page.

Razi was quoted in the newspaper report the next day as saying that he had nothing to do with the ‘DUN N.30 Saribas’ Facebook page, which he suspected was the work of irresponsible people who were trying to portray him as being anti-government and that had negatively affected his image as a state assemblyman.

He further said most of the postings on the page were critical towards the government and not really about the goings-on in Saribas.

He hoped the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) can track down the owner of the Facebook page and take immediate action against whoever is responsible.
