SIBU: A total of 80 Civil Defence Department personnel on Sunday launched a search operation in the woods of Sungai Sadit for a man, who had been missing for 10 days.

However, the four-hour operation that lasted till sundown at 6pm turned out to be futile, resulting in the man’s family to resort to unconventional ways.

Ngu Bek Yu, 63, was reported missing on Feb 28 in Sungai Sadit.

As the search turned to desperation, his family had also enlisted the help of several ‘bomoh’ (spiritual healer) to assist in the search.

They have also turned to other mystical ways like putting Ngu’s shirt and a mirror on a bamboo tree in front of their house, and shouting out his name.

The family believed that Ngu would return after he ‘heard their voices’.
