105 landowners in Bintulu, Tatau receive land titles

BINTULU: One hundred and five people in Jelai, Tatau near here have received their land titles under the new Native Customary Rights (NCR) initiative.

Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais presented 128 land titles to the recipients during a presentation held at Tatau Sports Hall yesterday.

The Land and Survey Department has, so far, surveyed a total of 13, 325,45 hectares of NCR land in 19 areas across here; and 5,548.40 hectares in five areas across Tatau.

In addition, the state government has four areas here to be surveyed as individual lots under Section 18 of State Land Code.

The exercise will involve three communities, namely Ibans, Malays and Penans of Kampung Kuala Segan here, Sungai Kelebu-Sungai Senunok in Tatau, as well as two other areas in Jelalong Tubau.

Naroden, who is also Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Development), spoke about the advantages of the NCR initiative to the rural folk.

“The people must give their full cooperation to the state government through Land and Survey Department, so that it could carry out the perimeter survey smoothly,” he said at the function, which was also attended by Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Office (Native Adat and Penan Affairs) Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Land and Survey Department deputy director for operations Zaidi Mahdi and Tatau District officer Nyurak Keti.
