KUCHING: The grounds of SMK St Mary’s Kuching were turned into a place for exploring potential directions for further education and careers yesterday.

The St Mary Edu-Carnival Programme 2015 saw various agencies taking part, including the 11th Royal Malay Regiment, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and more.

Students were all smiles as they posed with army personnel who were modelling the various uniforms and battle gear. The youngsters also had an opportunity to handle weapons, learn about the hazards of drug abuse, and get a tour of the inside of a Bomba emergency response vehicle.

There were also education institutes such as Gen Education, which was present to offer counselling and student services.

In her speech SMK St Mary’s Kuching Management Board chairperson Datin Evelyn Ritikos Jaul said that the morning’s programme was a showcase of what students here could consider for their future.

“This is a place to learn and see how people contribute to society,” she said, adding that the students also had a chance to see how the adults organised the event and learn from that as well.

Organising chairman Felix Thompson said that this Edu-Carnival was the first they organised together with GEN Education.

Present were SMK St Mary’s Kuching principal Prisca Chambers and GEN Education Founder/CEO Dato Joseph Hii.
