Enforcers haul 228 unstamped logs from sawmill in Ulu Lanang

SIBU: The Marine Police discovered illegal logging activity in Ulu Lanang near here on Friday, where they found a sawmill with 228 logs without stamps and documentation from the state Forestry Department.

Marine Police Region 5 Sarawak Commander ACP Kalai Chelvan Nadarajan disclosed that his men made the discovery during Ops Pensura carried out in the waters off Ulu Lanang in Batang Rajang.

“Out of the total, there were some 30 logs of various types and sizes that had been transferred into the sawmill, while 38 were still in the river waiting to be hauled up,” he said in a press statement, adding that the seized commodity was estimated to be worth RM52,800.

“The logs have been over to Forestry Department, Sibu Division for further action. The case is being investigated under Sarawak Forestry Ordinance,” he said.

The Region 5 team is encouraging members of the public as well as government agencies to provide any information regarding illegal logging as well as illegal maritime activities.
