MIRI: Untidily written graffiti at several public areas, purportedly advertising various services, has irked residents here.

Most recent are the words “Polish car 010 539 XXXX”, which appear to be for a car wash company.

“The numbers could be seen clearly as they are strategically facing the junction to a roundabout from the direction of Padang Kerbau bypass road,” a complainant, who only wished to be known as Teng, told The Borneo Post yesterday.

“Though the public usually pay less attention to this, I must say that this is vandalism.”

He said resorting to graffiti could possibly be to cut down on costs for an ordinary advertisement.

“I strongly believe that it is still against the law,” he complained.

Teng called on Miri City Council to identify and clean areas scarred with graffiti as some involved profanities.

“This kind of drawing is called vandalism. If they want to do it the proper way, I would suggest the local authorities provide a place for graffiti.

“Failing to control such acts among the local community here could seriously tarnish the city’s image,” he added.
