KUCHING: Malaysia has excellent educational and sports facilities to develop its human capital for the future.

This will make its young people important assets for the nation and to be respected globally.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman said this further proves that the government is very caring and doing its best to ensure that our young people are well developed not only academically but also physically, mentally and spiritually.

“In the 60s and 70s Malaysia was better, for example, than that South Korea and Singapore in many fields but now these two nations had surpassed us in high techs and sciences, human capital (development), economy and business “ he said before closing the state-level Voktek 2015 Carnival at Kolej Vokasional Matang here on Tuesday night.

He also said with the implementation of Malaysia Education Development Plan 2013-2025, the government hopes to develop human capital through the creation of the six aspirations in the plan; namely that students are knowledgeable, have thinking skills, leadership skills, are at least bilingual, have good ethics and spiritual values, and have high sense of national identity.

Daud believed that all these would propel the young generation to excel and put them on par with people in other countries in this region and the world.

Another push factor for them to excel, he added, is the 1Student 1Sport policy to produce well-balanced human capital in physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual aspects in line with the National Education Policy.

“In the global stage, our country needs those who have the knowledge, talents and are competitive in the education system so that they can compete with rest of the world,” he added.

On the carnival, Daud believed it was not only to look for winners but would spur the desire for success which could only be achieved through sheer efforts, detailed planning and sacrifice.

“There is no success without constant struggle and this trait leads to unity, respect and ‘esprit de corps’, resulting in human capital who are strong minded, patriotic and caring,” he stressed.

He hoped parents, teachers and students take the challenge apart from ensuring that government plans and policies to enhance human capital development are taken seriously so that the nation will have human assets that will always be competitive.
