KUCHING: A three-day Impian Education Camp was held in Kampung Mambong at Km14 Jalan Puncak Borneo last Tuesday.

A statement issued by political secretary to Chong Chieng Jen, Sanjan Daik said public response was very encouraging.

“The response from the children is overwhelming as 67 children ranging from pre-school to year 6 signed up for the programme,” Sanjan said.

DAP Mambong branch chairman Chang Hon Hiung said the camp aimed to nurture a life-long learning habit among children.

Other objectives include encouraging children to take the initiative, interact and improve their social skills.

The children were taught English, Mathematics and Science in a fun way by eight volunteers coming from throughout Malaysia.

The children and their parents were treated to Bidayuh cultural dances and plays performed by the children during Cultural Night.

Cultural Night was also attended by Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong and Batu Kawah assemblywoman Christina Chiew.

The camp was closed by Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei who emphasised the importance of education and called on parents to support their children’s education.

“This is part of DAP’s Impian Sarawak projects. It is the second such camp held in Mambong, and DAP shall continue to organise more such camps in the coming holidays – not only in Mambong but also in other areas,” Wong said.
