MIRI: An Indonesian man who was attacked by a crocodile late Saturday evening in Sungai Telung, Niah, managed to escape after he wrestled with the reptile and poked its eyes.

The man was rushed to Miri hospital on the same evening for injuries he sustained on his right hand and abdomen.

In the 4.30pm incident, the victim, aged 35, was washing his working clothes and his safety shoes at the riverbank when the reptile appeared from nowhere and lashed out at his right hand.

The crocodile is estimated to be about two metres long.

“I was stunned when the reptile put its jawbones onto my hand and tried to drag me into the river. I did shout for help but it was useless,” said Mulliana Malla when met by The Borneo Post yesterday afternoon.

Mulliana, from Sulawesi, Indonesia, has been working as a construction site worker in Niah for the past two years.

“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life,” added Mulliana.

He felt blessed to have survived the ordeal.

“After I poked it in the eyes, the reptile let me go and disappeared into the river. I then immediately returned to shore and shouted for help,” said Mulliana.

His co-workers immediately rushed to him and called up their supervisor for assistance.
