Several roads to be closed for Fit Malaysia event

KUCHING: Several roads will be closed for traffic during the state-level Fit Malaysia programme at Padang Merdeka on April 12.

Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Dr Lee Kim Shin said among the roads that will be closed are Jalan Wayang, the junction of Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Barrack heading towards Jalan Masjid, Jalan McDougall, and the traffic lights junction of RTM.

“The road closure starts at 6.30am till the event ends. Members of public are advised to park their vehicles at designated areas like Saujana and Medan Pelita,” he told a press conference after chairing a meeting with the state-level Fit Malaysia organising committee at Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex yesterday.

Lee said Fit Malaysia is an event to promote healthy living among the people through various fitness activities that are in line with the National Sports Day launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently.

“Apart from the Fit Malaysia Run and Fit Malaysia Ride, there will also be other activities like Self Defense Zone, Fitness Zone, Extreme Zone, Kids Zone, and with filler activities throughout.

“We anticipate at least 10,000 people from all walks of life to come and join the grand fitness programme that will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” he said, adding that federal Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin would also come.

Lee said those who wished to participate in the Fit Malaysia Run or Fit Malaysia Ride could register themselves via its website at www.fit.my.

The Fit Malaysia Run comprises two categories of 5km and 10km run while the Fit Malaysia Ride cycling event is divided into 10km and 30km categories.
