MIRI: Miri CID arrested a suspect on late Saturday evening, wanted for his involvement in many theft, burglary and housebreaking cases.

In the raid, codenamed ‘Ops Pintu’, the man was rounded up at a house in Tudan Phase 5 at 5.35pm following public tip-off.

Police personnel led by Sgt Major Lai Sem Lee also recovered a 42-inch flat screen television in the house, believed to be stolen. During the raid, the suspect was watching television with his girlfriend, unaware that police were approaching. The suspect tried to escape but police managed to nab him.

According to police spokesperson, the television was reported missing a day before the arrest was made.

“The suspect, aged 33 and an unemployed, had been arrested several times before for the same offences, besides for drug use,” said Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.

The suspect has been detained at Miri central police station (CPS) to facilitate investigation.

“The case is being investigated under section 380 of the Penal Code,” added Stanley.
